BRICO | Transformative Tessellations

PROJECT
BRICO
2021

@ Division of Industrial Design, National University of Singapore
BRIEF
This project explores the symbiotic relationship between textile and pattern, and how textiles are associated with place, narrativity and spatiality through case studies and hands-on exercises. After which, a textile-based proposition is developed on a selected concept, focusing on how textile patterns are generated to effectively code and convey the intended narrative.

PROPOSITION
To us, textiles can be abstracted as simply as a series of flexible interlocking modules. Drawing inspiration from the designers' shared interest in crafting and our tendency to hoard scrap materials as a result, we propose Brico, a DIY kit that guides users in the creation of adaptable, scalable units from scrap materials.
